From Grey Power Federation
David Marshall is a Grey Power Federation Board member and our National Advisory Chair for Retirement Income and Taxation. Last Friday, he was part of a panel of invitees on a pre-recorded TV program hosted by Jack Tame, discussing New Zealand Super. We also had some members in the audience in support.
The Q & A program will screen this Sunday 22nd August at 9am on TV1. It should also be available on TVNZ On Demand.
BACKGROUND: The panellists were: Jane Wrightson, Retirement Commissioner; Tama Potaka, CEO of Ngai Tai Ki Tamaki & has been on the Super Fund Board; Brad Olsen (a 24-year-old economist based in Wellington) and David Marshall from Grey Power Federation. Carmel Sepuloni was interviewed part way through the program. There was also a video interview with Australian economist Paul Bloxham on the Australian superannuation situation. There was back grounder on the international retirement ages and schemes, and an interview with retirees from around the Bay of Plenty. The latter included comments from members of a retirement village at the Mount, a retiree in a “mobile’ home on leased land, and members of the Katikati RSA Village. David has been advocating for this group of retirees who have had their rent increased significantly as the Trust tries to upgrade the village without any Government support. This has resulted in cases of extreme financial duress for the residents with need for some to seek food assistance.
