Census workers wanted
In March 2023 there will be a nationwide Census. At present a recruitment campaign is underway. There are many paid fixed-term (full-time and part-time) contract positions available for Census 2023. Budget 2022 has been a disappointment for New Zealand’s leading advocate for older people.

Although the Grey Power Federation is pleased to note that the Government is investing $3.103 million over four years to continue implementing the Better Later Life – He Oranga Kaumātua strategy’s current action plan priorities to encourage digital inclusion, senior entrepreneurship, and shared housing and announced an increase in the dental health grant which has been overdue for many years, the Federation president Jan Pentecost said it was particularly disappointing that the cost-of-living package, announced in the budget, excluded vulnerable older people on national superannuation.

Winter energy payments start soon
From the Ofice of Seniors
The Winter Energy Payment will be paid from 1 May to 1 October.
This payment helps people keep their homes and families warmer and healthier over winter.
People don’t need to apply for the Winter Energy Payment. If they’re eligible, they’ll get it automatically with their other payments.

NZ Super payments increase 6% from April.
The Government has confirmed that NZS payments will increase from April by 6%. This is welcome news as the high rate of inflation we are encountering has been eroding the buying power of super payments. This increase matches the rate of inflation in 2021. For those who are single and living alone will receive a $26/week increase, and couples, both eligible, will see an additional $40/week in their bank account.
